We are going to the Occidental Grand Aruba resort in a couple of weeks. We have reserved the Grand Concierge Deluxe Ocean View room. What does the concierge service include? I noticed that I don’t think we are part of the Royal Club members, but I wanted to know about the concierge. More specifically, we were wondering if the beach staff would reserve huts for us?

Please forgive me for such a delay in responding. If you are still trying to help your tenant, here are a couple ideas. You could contact offices around your area to see if they would be willing to take impressions and then send your uncle’s aids out for remake to the tenant’s ears. The charges for this varies. Probably around $350-500 per aid. You could also see if there is a charitable organization that he may qualify for services. In our area, we have the Lion’s Sight and Hearing program. I have two Siemens hearing aids that were used by my great uncle. (Model 94W024656L and 94W024656R L S) They are “in ear” units, not back of ear units and work well. A 55 year old tenant at Salmon Bay Marina is very hard of hearing and cannot afford any hearing aids. He is broke. He does have a service dog that alerts the tenant when someone is around.

I had the tenant try on the hearing aids and he could hear with his back toward me. He and I were amazed. Unfortunately his ears are much smaller than the hearing aids and the aids would not fit.

Does your company have a means of re-fitting the old aids to fit his ears? If so, what kind of cost would be involved?
Does you company have a charity program available and if so what is necessary to qualify for the program?
If your company is not able to refit the aids, do you know who may be able to?

Barbara Jenkins PhD has reported on the Better Hearing Institute blog that she's averaging about 50% of her patients that ask for the Lyric actually qualify. Extrapolating from my experience with the Philips XP Peritympanic in 1992, I would bifurcate Barbara's results to about 60% male & 40% female. Also, indeed I am getting good reports on the Starkey Oto-Lens from both a traditional dispenser in Florida and a dispensing audie in LA, as it's a good alternative to the Lyric.
